ACQUERELLO TRAM A MILANO - watercolor tram in Milan

After a holiday break in the mountains I started to paint in watercolor and I have been inspired by a picture taken about a month ago in my city, Milan.
In a warm morning I was in this street shaded by very thick trees, which create a special atmosphere and very large cast shadows on the road. Then I took pictures, even when has passed a tram because I liked to introduce color.
Based on these reference pictures I then choose an arrangement of the elements that allowed me to give depth to the scene: trees and building in the background, trees in the middleground, trees in the foreground with the road traveled by tram, which is the main point of interest of the composition.

ACQUERELLO E PENNA A INCHIOSTRO - watercolor and ink pen

In this new drawing I used a Staedtler 0.35 pen with black ink , that remember me the years of Architecture. I washed the pen and filled with new ink,  miraculously still works after many years!
On a Fabriano watercolor sheet  240 g /mq which measures  10.6 "x 13.8" I started with a watercolor wash in three colors (light blue, green and orange) and then I drew the chamaleon with pencil.
Then I started to draw the patterns with the ink pen 0.35.

I finished the drawing of chamaleon and the background and I highlighted the main subject with a second wash of watercolor. I added  purple to the three previous colors ( orange green and light blue).

Poi ho dato profondità al disegno, ombreggiando con matite colorate negli stessi colori dell'acquerello. Ed ecco il risultato:

Then I gave depht to drawing shading with colored pencils in the same colors of watercolor.
This is the result:

UN ALTRO PESCE ZENTANGLE INSPIRED ART - another "zentangle inspired art" fish

Although at first I wanted to talk and present my watercolors, now I'm focusing more on the drawing with markers.

"Pesce tropicale 3"

The technique fascinates me, even if my interpretation is enough away from the o
riginal "Zentangle"  designed and registered in the U.S. by Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts.

In fact, more I draw and more I realize that I can't repeat the patterns, I change them, invent and overlap them.
If it is a form of art, I think everyone is free to interpret them as he wants and not into rigid schemas and goals.

I continue to draw tropical fishes because they seem good subjects: they are so imaginative that it is easy to just take them as a starting point for further embellishment.
Nature is full of imaginative patterns and interesting ideas and seabed is an example.

To return to the technique, first I draw the subject from a picture, the outer shape of the fish and some inner section with a pen Staedtler pigment line 0.8.  So I divide inland areas which then I fill with different patterns using a thinner marker  type Staedtler 0.1 and Faber Castell Pitt artist pen. I also like to use more colors than black: in this case I used the sepia.

I do not follow a linear path, but I move  from one part to another of the drawing according to the inspiration of the moment. Then I try to balance the light and dark and then drawing the background with a thin line.
Of course I spent a few hours to finish the drawing, I do not know exactly how many hours, but I think 6 or 7 hours at least.

However, I think that through this type of drawing everyone is able to clear the mind and enhance  artistic and fantastic skills.

ANCORA ZENTANGLE INSPIRED ART

Last night I finished another drawing inspired to "Zentangle doodles."
As I wrote in another post, the term "Zentangle", which is a registered trademark in the U.S.A., shows drawings made with repetitive patterns whose execution creates a sort of state of meditation like Zen.
I haven't made any course held from various certified teachers, but the network is enough to understand what it is and then I made my own personal interpretation, this time coloured.
I first created a layer with watercolors on paper specific for this technique, then I drew with markers repetitive elements which I then highlighted with colored pencils.

And here is the result:

Astratto 3 - cm 35 x 27

The more I observed the drawing, the more I had in my mind the scene of an alien world, almost scary, like some science fiction movies.
Then looking graphic references to this idea I discovered the existence of an interesting Swiss artist of surrealist and symbolic inspiration, Hans Rudolf Giger.
This painter, sculptor and designer has given shape to the creature from the movie "Alien" with Carlo Rambaldi and is the creator of biomechanical creatures of science fiction in which flesh and metal blend.
Many of his works are exhibited at the Museum H.R. Giger, located inside the medieval castle of St. Germain in the village of Gruyères (Switzerland), open since 1998. http://www.hrgiger.com/

UN NUOVO ACQUERELLO - New watercolor

At last during the weekend I found the time for a new watercolor, inspired by a picture of a previous post.

Here is the result:

"Nella mia città"
"In my town"

I have many pictures I shoot with the idea of making watercolors, but then passes a long time  before I can pick up the brush, trying to rediscover the atmosphere of that particular moment.
Watercolor requires, at least for me, so careful planning and concentration in the creation. I must find the right moment, the '"inspiration", and it is not always easy.
The process of transforming a picture into a painting is not so easy. Some elements are emphasized, others muted or ignored and should be carefully studied foreground, the middle and background.
The picture often flattens the subject while watercolor have to give a sense of three-dimensionality. I carefully studied the areas of lights and  shade.

So it's all very difficult!
